Vision: Brooklyn Grange farms rooftops, builds green spaces, and promotes sustainable living and local ecology through food, education, and events. We believe that social enterprise is a powerful driver of positive change, and that businesses should be a nourishing part of their community.

Sustainability Backstory: Brooklyn Grange operates three farms, spread across Queens and Brooklyn. Their farms make use of combined rooftop and indoor space to grow their produce. Each building utilizes environmentally friendly resource management practices to lower their carbon footprint.

“Sustainability is at the heart of Brooklyn Grange’s mission, and we are constantly innovating ways to create future cities that are greener, cleaner, and more delicious. We are a triple bottom line business, which means that when making decisions, we consider not only our financial profit, but also, the natural capital we gain or lose. We question what impact each outcome will have on the planet, and the people on it. We think of our business as part of an ecosystem, and we aim to benefit all other members of that ecosystem, from the ladybug laying larva on our lettuce, to our fellow human beings across the globe” (Brooklyn Grange, 2020).

In addition to their produce farms, Brooklyn Grange also processes their own honey. They have several apiaries, or beehives, around New York City. They sell the honey at the seasonal farmers markets.
